Sourav Ganguly reassures Rinku Singh after T20 World Cup exclusion: “Just the beginning for him”

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has come forward to support Rinku Singh after the young cricketer was left out of India’s T20 World Cup squad. Ganguly reassured Rinku, emphasizing that his exclusion was a tactical decision made by the team management.

Ganguly explained that the decision to go with an “extra spinner” was based on the spinning conditions expected in the West Indies, which influenced the selection process. Rinku, known for his explosive batting and finishing skills, was likely edged out due to this strategic choice.

“It’s West Indies. The wickets may be slow and assist spin so they (selectors) wanted to go with another spinner. Maybe because of that Rinku didn’t get an opportunity but it’s just the beginning for Rinku,” Ganguly said at the Trophy unveiling ceremony of the Bengal Pro T20 League.

Looking ahead to the tournament, Ganguly predicted that India and Australia would dominate similar to how they did in the 50-over World Cup last year. India will begin their group stage matches in the USA, facing Ireland on June 5 before transitioning to the Caribbean for the Super Eight onwards.

Ganguly praised the Indian squad, calling them a “fabulous squad” with all 15 players capable of being match winners. He expressed confidence in captains Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid to select the best team for the tournament.

In addition to discussing the T20 World Cup, Ganguly also announced the teams and marquee players for the upcoming Bengal Pro T20 League, set to take place from June 11-28 at Eden Gardens and Jadavpur University Salt Lake Campus ground. The league will feature eight franchises representing different regions of West Bengal.

Overall, Ganguly’s words of encouragement for Rinku Singh and his insights into the upcoming T20 World Cup have provided fans with a glimpse of what to expect from the highly anticipated tournament.
