Scotland’s Cricket World Cup League 2 Tournament Postponed Due to Unprecedented Poor Weather
Scotland’s bid to reach the next stage of World Cup qualification has hit a snag as the Cricket World Cup League 2 tournament between Scotland, Namibia, and Oman has been postponed due to unprecedented poor weather conditions. The round-robin event, originally scheduled to take place in May near Dundee, will now be held in July at Forthill, home of Forfarshire.
The decision to postpone the tournament was made after consultation between the three competing nations and the ICC. Adverse weather has hampered pitch preparation work, affecting the square and ground infrastructure. Cricket Scotland’s head of operations and commercial, Paul Macari, expressed gratitude to Forfarshire CC for their efforts in challenging circumstances and remains hopeful for better weather conditions in July.
The rescheduled dates for the Cricket World Cup League 2 matches are as follows:
– Tuesday, 16 July: Scotland vs Oman
– Thursday, 18 July: Oman vs Namibia
– Saturday, 20 July: Scotland vs Namibia
– Monday, 22 July: Scotland vs Oman
– Wednesday, 24 July: Oman vs Namibia
– Friday, 26 July: Scotland vs Namibia
The Cricket World Cup League 2 is an eight-team competition that will run over three years, with each team playing 36 one-day internationals across nine triangular series. The top four teams will advance to a final 10-team World Cup qualifier, while the bottom four teams will face teams from the lower-tier CWC Challenge League to secure a place in the qualifier. The top four teams from the qualifier will advance to the World Cup finals in 2027, where 14 teams will compete in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia over 54 matches.
