Rohit Sharma becomes first Indian batter to hit 500 sixes in T20 cricket

Rohit Sharma made history on Sunday as he became the first Indian batter to hit 500 sixes in T20 cricket during the IPL 2024 match against Chennai Super Kings. The Mumbai Indians’ skipper achieved this milestone with a powerful slog sweep off Ravindra Jadeja at Wankhede Stadium.

With this feat, Rohit joins the elite list of batters with 500 or more sixes in Men’s T20 cricket, which includes the likes of Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, and Colin Munro. Gayle leads the pack with a staggering 1056 sixes in 463 matches.

However, Rohit’s achievement was not without a moment of embarrassment as his trousers slipped during fielding in the same match. Despite the mishap, Rohit’s focus remained on the game as he continued to lead his team with determination.

Looking ahead, Rohit expressed his desire to continue playing for a few more years with the goal of winning the 2027 ODI World Cup. The 36-year-old cricketer emphasized his passion for the 50-over format, citing the heartbreak of India’s loss in the 2023 edition.

“I really want to win that World Cup,” Rohit stated in a recent interview, highlighting his unwavering commitment to achieving success on the international stage. As he continues to rewrite records and inspire fans with his exceptional batting prowess, Rohit Sharma’s journey in cricket promises to be one filled with determination and ambition.
