Delhi Capitals Skipper Rishabh Pant Expresses Concerns About Impact Player Rule
Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant has joined the chorus of Indian cricket stars expressing concerns about the Impact Player rule after his team’s recent high-scoring victories in the IPL. In their match against Mumbai Indians, DC posted a massive total of 257 for 4, their highest-ever in the IPL. Despite a valiant effort by MI’s Tilak Varma, who scored 63 off 32 balls, DC managed to restrict them to 247 for 9.
Pant, speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, voiced his frustration with the Impact Player rule, stating, “We were pretty happy with 250 on the board but with impact sub it is getting difficult each and every day.” To counter the aggressive batting of MI, Pant stood up to medium pacers like Mukesh Kumar and Rasikh Dar, a move that paid off in the end.
The skipper also heaped praise on Jake Fraser-McGurk, who played a blistering innings of 84 off 27 balls, including 11 fours and six sixes. Pant commended the young player’s growth and development, stating, “He has been amazing since the first day and this is what you want from a younger player, he’s getting better and better with each game.”
Meanwhile, a disappointed Hardik Pandya lamented his team’s lack of game awareness, particularly in not attacking left-arm spinner Axar Patel more aggressively. Despite a strong batting performance, MI fell short in their chase, with Pandya acknowledging the missed opportunities in the middle overs.
As the IPL season heats up, the Impact Player rule continues to be a topic of debate among players and fans alike, with many calling for a reevaluation of its impact on the game.
