Pakistan Appoint Jason Gillespie as Head Coach for Test Team and Gary Kirsten for One-Day Side
Pakistan’s cricket team is gearing up for a busy schedule ahead of the T20 World Cup in the US and the Caribbean in June. The team is set to play seven T20 matches next month, with three against Ireland and four against England.
In an exciting development, Pakistan has appointed former Australia pace bowler Jason Gillespie as the head coach of the men’s Test team. Gillespie, who previously led Yorkshire to back-to-back County Championship titles, will be in charge for England’s Test tour of Pakistan later this year. On the other hand, former South Africa batter Gary Kirsten will take over the one-day side, bringing with him a wealth of experience, having led India to World Cup glory in 2011.
Kirsten will start his role immediately after completing his assignment as the batting coach and mentor to Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League. He expressed his excitement at the opportunity to coach Pakistan’s white-ball sides, as they prepare for their tour of England in May.
Both head coaches have signed two-year deals with the Pakistan Cricket Board, and former Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood will assist them across all formats. Gillespie and Kirsten are looking forward to the challenge and are eager to contribute positively to the Pakistan men’s national team in Test and limited-overs cricket.
With the T20 World Cup on the horizon, Pakistan’s preparations are in full swing, and fans can expect an exciting series of matches against Ireland and England in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for more updates on Pakistan’s journey towards the T20 World Cup.
