Middlesex Cricket Club CEO Addresses Rumors of Leaving Lord’s Cricket Ground
Middlesex Cricket Club’s chief executive officer, Andrew Cornish, has responded to rumors suggesting the club may be leaving its historic home at Lord’s Cricket Ground. In a statement issued in response to an article in the Sunday Times, Mr Cornish reassured fans that the club has no immediate plans to move away from the iconic venue.
Middlesex Cricket has been a tenant at Lord’s since 1877, and Mr Cornish emphasized the club’s long-standing relationship with the Marylebone Cricket Club, which owns the grounds. Despite facing challenges in terms of growth potential and securing additional funds from Lord’s, Mr Cornish made it clear that any potential move would be years away and would require significant financial investment.
While acknowledging the need for another elite cricket facility in London, Mr Cornish stated that Middlesex currently has no alternative site to consider moving to. He emphasized that the club’s priority is to continue playing as much cricket as possible at Lord’s and that the partnership with the Marylebone Cricket Club will continue to thrive in the future.
In his statement on the club’s website, Mr Cornish assured members that Middlesex Cricket is not about to end its long-term relationship with Lord’s and is not planning to leave the venue. He concluded by stating, “We aren’t going anywhere any time soon, and we look forward to our partnership with Marylebone Cricket Club continuing to thrive moving forwards.”
Fans can rest assured that Middlesex Cricket Club remains committed to its historic home at Lord’s and will continue to explore options to ensure the club’s future success while maintaining its strong ties to the iconic venue.
