Adam Voges Prefers ‘Power Surge’ Rule Over Impact Player Substitution in IPL: LSG Consultant

Lucknow Super Giants consultant Adam Voges has weighed in on the ongoing debate surrounding Impact Players in the IPL, suggesting a rule similar to the ‘Power Surge’ in the Australian Big Bash League could be a better alternative.

Voges expressed his concerns about the Impact Player substitution rule, stating that while it makes for entertaining cricket, it can sideline all-rounders and affect the balance of the team.

“The scores have been going up, and the teams have got genuine batters coming in at number seven or eight, while the batters have gone hard right from the start,” Voges said after Lucknow Super Giants’ victory over Chennai Super Kings.

Comparing the Impact Player rule to the Power Surge in the BBL, Voges highlighted the added excitement and strategic element that the Power Surge brings to the game.

“I like the Power Surge back at home. It just adds another element to the game,” Voges commented.

Lucknow Super Giants’ victory over Chennai Super Kings was largely attributed to Marcus Stoinis’ unbeaten 124, with Voges praising the decision to promote him to number three in the batting order.

Voges also acknowledged the role of dew in the match, noting that winning the toss played a crucial factor in the outcome.

Overall, Voges commended both teams for their outstanding performance in what he described as a “tremendous game of cricket.”

With the debate around Impact Players in the IPL continuing to heat up, Voges’ perspective on introducing a rule like the Power Surge could spark further discussions on how to strike a balance between entertainment and fairness in the league.
