Jofra Archer admits he may not be able to cope with fresh injury problems, as England bowler eyes T20 World Cup comeback
Jofra Archer, the talented England bowler, has been facing a series of fitness challenges since his breakthrough onto the international cricket scene in 2019. With a string of injuries keeping him off the field for the past 11 months, Archer is now questioning his ability to handle any more setbacks.
In a candid interview on the 4Cast’s Athlete’s Voice podcast, Archer expressed his concerns, stating, “I don’t know if I have another stop-start year in me.” The toll of constant injuries has taken a significant mental and physical toll on the bowler, who is eager to make a comeback in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Despite his determination to return to competitive cricket, Archer remains cautious about his prospects. England’s managing director, Rob Key, emphasized the need for a flexible approach in guiding Archer back to full fitness. The team has decided to withdraw him from the Indian Premier League and ruled him out of Test cricket until next year to ensure a gradual return to form.
Archer’s ultimate goal is to represent England in the T20 World Cup, but he acknowledges the importance of taking it slow and not rushing his recovery. Even if he misses out on the World Cup, Archer is optimistic about participating in other cricket tournaments like the T20 Blast and The Hundred.
Fans were treated to a glimpse of Archer’s talent when he recently played for his old school team in Barbados, taking four wickets in a Barbados Cricket Association game. As he looks forward to potentially playing for England in the West Indies, Archer is hopeful to have his family and dogs cheering him on from the stands.
Teammate Adil Rashid is confident in Archer’s resilience, stating, “He’s had a few setbacks in his career but every time he’s always willing to come back and I’m sure he’ll come back stronger.” Despite the challenges, Archer’s determination and support from his team indicate that he is on the path to a successful comeback.
