ICC Annual Team Rankings Update: Australia Tops Test Rankings, India Continues to Rule White-Ball Forms
In a recent update to the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) annual team rankings, Australia has claimed the top spot in Test cricket, surpassing India after their victory in the World Test Championship final. Despite this, India continues to dominate in both white-ball formats, maintaining their lead in ODI and T20I cricket.
Australia’s impressive performance in the World Test Championship final against India at The Oval last year propelled them to the top of the Test rankings with a rating of 124 points, leaving India in second place with 120 points. The positions between fourth and tenth remain unchanged, with South Africa, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, West Indies, and Bangladesh rounding out the top ten.
The rankings update takes into account performances from May 2021 onwards, with results weighted accordingly. India’s thrilling series victory over Australia in early 2021 is not included in the rankings, but their recent success in white-ball cricket has helped them maintain their lead in both formats.
In ODI cricket, India leads the way with 122 points, followed closely by Australia with 116 points. South Africa, Pakistan, and New Zealand complete the top five in the rankings. In T20I cricket, India remains at the top with a comfortable lead, although Australia has closed the gap to just seven points.
With teams jostling for position in the rankings, the competition is heating up as cricket fans eagerly await the next series of matches to see how the rankings may shift once again.
