Heather Knight joins Somerset’s board as adviser

England cricket captain Heather Knight has taken on a new role as an adviser on Somerset’s board, bringing her wealth of knowledge and experience to the club.

Knight, who made her England debut over 14 years ago, has had a successful career in cricket, playing over 260 times for her country in all formats of the game. She has also captained England since June 2016, leading the team to victory in the World Cup.

The 33-year-old Plymouth native is a former Somerset academy player and has led Western Storm to two Super League titles. Her appointment as an adviser to Somerset’s board has been met with excitement and praise from the county’s chairman, Sir Michael Barber.

Barber expressed his delight at having Knight on board, highlighting her role in shaping the direction of women’s cricket and her status as a genuine leader in the sport. He emphasized the importance of having someone of Knight’s caliber advising the club on all facets of the game.

Chief executive Gordon Hollins echoed Barber’s sentiments, noting that Knight’s appointment will help ensure that Somerset remains competitive in the English domestic game. He emphasized the importance of having the best people with the appropriate skills in key positions to positively influence the club and the game as a whole.

Knight’s role as an adviser will extend beyond the women’s side of the club, with Hollins emphasizing her ability to contribute to the development, evolution, and future planning of Somerset cricket. With Somerset recently being awarded Tier 1 women’s status, Knight’s expertise and leadership will be crucial in guiding the club forward in the women’s game and beyond.
