England fast bowler Jofra Archer wary of potential injury setbacks ahead of T20 World Cup

England fast bowler Jofra Archer has expressed concerns about his ability to handle additional injury setbacks, admitting that he may struggle to cope with another stop-start year. The 29-year-old paceman has been plagued by injuries throughout his career, most recently missing the entirety of last year’s home season due to a stress fracture in his right elbow.

Despite his struggles, Archer remains determined to make a comeback and has set his sights on participating in the upcoming T20 World Cup in the United States and the Caribbean in June. However, he is wary of the challenges that lie ahead.

“It’s been a while and honestly, I don’t know if I’ve got another stop-start year in me. That’s the truth, I don’t know if I’ve got another one,” Archer revealed on the 4Cast’s Athlete’s Voice podcast.

Archer’s aspirations have received a boost from England cricket chief Rob Key, who has ruled him out of playing a Test match until 2025 but believes the T20 World Cup is a realistic goal for the talented bowler. Archer is hopeful of making the squad for the tournament but remains cautious about his prospects.

“Come the first game in June I really do want to be in the team,” Archer said. “The last two years have been really stop-start, so I just think that, you know, everyone’s going to just take it a bit easy.”

Despite the uncertainties surrounding his future, Archer is keeping his options open and is prepared to make the most of any opportunities that come his way, including participating in domestic tournaments like the T20 Blast and The Hundred.

With his eyes set on a successful return to the field, Archer’s determination and resilience will be key as he navigates the challenges that lie ahead.
