Cricket Victoria and Academy Movement Inc. Partner to Grow Cricket in Victorian Schools

Cricket Victoria and Academy Movement Inc. have joined forces to launch a new initiative aimed at promoting cricket and enhancing the educational experience of secondary school students in Victoria. The partnership will see participating schools offering cricket-focused electives for Year 9 and 10 students, as well as a Certificate III in Sport and Recreation with a cricket focus for Year 11 and 12 students.

In addition to specialized cricket training starting from Year 7, students will have the opportunity to learn about umpiring, coaching, nutrition, sport psychology, sports strapping/taping, and first aid as part of their curriculum. These courses will not only help students develop their cricket skills but also work towards a formal qualification in the field of sports and recreation.

Furthermore, the partnership will align with the Melbourne Cricket Education Academy in collaboration with RMIT University, providing students with a pathway to continue their cricket education at the tertiary level.

Academy Movement, a not-for-profit organization, will be working closely with schools to implement this program, providing specialized teaching staff, curriculum resources, and tools to monitor student progress. The aim is to improve academic outcomes, student engagement, and to create opportunities for aspiring athletes to pursue a career in cricket.

Lara Secondary College near Geelong has been announced as the first school to participate in the program, representing the Melbourne Renegades in the North-West region. Both Academy Movement and Cricket Victoria are excited about the potential of this partnership to enhance student outcomes and promote cricket as a valuable educational and sporting pursuit.

Cricket Victoria CEO Nick Cummins expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting the importance of engaging with schools to introduce cricket to a wider audience. This innovative approach aims to integrate cricket into the school curriculum, providing students with a unique opportunity to excel in both academics and sports. The collaboration between Cricket Victoria and Academy Movement is set to revolutionize the way cricket is taught and experienced in schools across Victoria.
