Cricket Ireland Strengthens Board with Key Appointments and Updates on National Stadium
Cricket Ireland has made significant additions to its Board with the appointment of three new members, including former ICC CEO David Richardson, Head of Private Clients at KPMG Liam Lynch, and Sukhi Byrne as Munster Cricket’s nominee.
David Richardson, who spent 17 years at the ICC and seven as CEO, left a lasting impact on the sport with his agenda of inclusion and meritocratic expansion. His experience as a former international cricketer and lawyer brought a unique perspective to his roles at the ICC, leading to Cricket Ireland becoming an ICC Full Member during his tenure.
Liam Lynch, with over 30 years of experience as a Chartered Accountant, currently holds significant roles at KPMG Ireland. His expertise in financial services and private clients will be valuable to the Board.
Sukhi Byrne, a former solicitor and Mindfulness Coach, brings a passion for growing the game in Munster and youth cricket. As a graduate of Cricket Ireland’s women’s leadership program, she is the first to become a Board member, showcasing her dedication to the sport.
The Board also saw Stella Downes confirmed as President and Donna Armstrong as Vice President, with plans for a new National Stadium to host part of the 2030 Cricket World Cup. Chair Brian MacNiece highlighted the benefits of the proposed stadium, emphasizing its financial and cricket-related advantages.
With a Master Plan in place and government approval pending, Cricket Ireland is on track to solidify its position as a mainstream sport with a dedicated national stadium. The Board’s new members and strategic plans signal a promising future for cricket in Ireland.
