Celebrating Nigeria’s Boxing Legends: Boxing Lifetime Achievements Merit Awards Ceremony

The Ministry of Sports, in partnership with Yucateco Boxing Promotions, is set to host the inaugural Boxing Lifetime Achievements Merit Awards Ceremony at Jivinik Hall in Ikeja GRA on Friday, April 19 in Lagos. This event, spearheaded by sports minister John Enoh, aims to recognize and appreciate the contributions of Nigeria’s boxing heroes.

Omonlei Imadu, CEO of Yucateco Boxing Promotions, expressed the importance of honoring those who have made significant impacts on the growth of boxing in Nigeria. The awards will celebrate boxers, referees, judges, and other individuals who have brought glory to the nation through the sport.

Imadu highlighted the focus on both legendary figures in Nigerian boxing and the younger generation of boxers. The event will feature various categories of awards to ensure that all deserving individuals are duly recognized for their achievements.

Among the distinguished awardees for this year’s ceremony are President of the Nigeria Boxing Federation, Lt. Gen. Kenneth Minimah (retd.), the late Hogan Bassey, former national middleweight champion Isaac Ikhouria, Commonwealth Games gold medalist Sabo Mohammed, and current national boxing coach Anthony Konyegwachie. Additionally, notable figures such as Lawal Olaiwola, Edith Ogoke, and Joseph Mensah will also be honored for their contributions to the sport.
