Vasiliy Lomachenko arrives in Australia ahead of showdown with George Kambosos

Former world champion Vasiliy Lomachenko has landed in Australia ahead of his highly anticipated showdown with George Kambosos in Perth, but the Ukrainian boxing star chose to keep things cordial and did not issue any warnings to his opponent.

Lomachenko arrived in Perth on Monday in preparation for his upcoming bout with Kambosos for the IBF and IBO lightweight world titles, set to take place at the RAC Arena on May 12. This fight has been in the making for almost two years, with Lomachenko initially scheduled to face Kambosos in 2022 but had to withdraw due to the war in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Kambosos put his unified lightweight world champion status on the line against Devin Haney and suffered defeats in June and October last year. Lomachenko also faced Haney in a controversial bout for the undisputed lightweight crown in May 2021, resulting in a unanimous decision defeat.

Now, Lomachenko has the opportunity to reclaim a lightweight world title when he squares off against Kambosos, who last fought in July 2021, defeating Maxi Hughes to win the IBO lightweight title.

When asked if he had any words for Kambosos upon his arrival in Perth, Lomachenko simply stated, “It’s a competition and I think the best man will win.”

Despite the lack of trash talk, Lomachenko expressed his excitement for the upcoming fight, stating, “Of course I am excited and we want to win this fight. I hope everything will be good and we’ll see what happens.”

This will be Lomachenko’s third fight outside of the United States in his professional career, with previous victories in Macau and London. The Ukrainian boxer also revealed his interest in fishing, noting that Perth is known for its excellent fishing spots.

As the countdown to the Lomachenko vs. Kambosos showdown continues, fans can expect an intense battle for the lightweight world titles in Perth on May 12.
