Terence Crawford to Face Israil Madrimov for Fourth World Title at Different Weight Class
Terence Crawford is set to make history once again as he steps into the ring to face WBA light-middleweight champion Israil Madrimov in a bid to win a world title at a fourth different weight class. The 36-year-old American, who boasts a perfect record of 40 wins in his professional career, has previously held world titles in the welterweight, super-lightweight, and lightweight divisions.
Crawford’s move up to the 154lbs weight class comes on the heels of his impressive victory over Errol Spence last July, where he claimed the undisputed welterweight championship. With an undisputed title already under his belt in the lightweight division, Crawford is looking to solidify his status as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.
“I cannot wait to get back in the ring in my fourth weight class and remind the world why I’m the best pound for pound fighter in the world,” Crawford stated. “Israil Madrimov is a tremendous and entertaining fighter, but on August 3, he will be my next victim. This is the Terence Crawford era.”
Madrimov, who holds a record of 10 wins and one draw, is equally excited for the opportunity to face Crawford. “Terence Crawford is one of my favorite boxers and one of the best boxers in the world,” Madrimov said. “I am very excited to get this opportunity to make a statement, and I will.”
The undercard for the event will feature former unified heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz, who will be making his return to the ring after a unanimous decision win against Luis Ortiz in September 2022. Ruiz will face Jarrell Miller, who suffered his first defeat last year against Daniel Dubois.
The event, hosted by Riyadh Season, marks the first time a boxing card will be held outside of Saudi Arabia. With such high-stakes matchups and top-tier talent on display, boxing fans can expect an electrifying night of action on August 3.
