SUNNY EDWARDS SET TO RETURN TO AMERICA FOR JUNE 29 FLYWEIGHT BATTLE
Sunny Edwards is set to make his return to America on June 29th as he faces off against Mexico’s Adrian Curiel in a flyweight showdown. Both fighters are eager to bounce back from recent losses and secure a victory in this highly anticipated bout.
The Edwards vs. Curiel fight will serve as the co-main event to the Jesse Rodriguez-Juan Francisco Estrada matchup at the Footprint Centre in Phoenix, Arizona. Edwards, who previously defended his IBF flyweight title in Arizona, suffered a defeat at the hands of Rodriguez in a unification bout last December. Despite putting up a good fight, Edwards’ corner ultimately decided to pull him out in the ninth round to prevent further punishment.
Following his defeat, Edwards made the decision to move down to super-flyweight and set his sights on challenging his Matchroom stablemate Sivenathi Nonthshinga for the IBF title at 108lbs. Nonthshinga, who is looking to unify the division by facing WBO champion Jonathan “Bomba” Gonzalez in June, could potentially face Cristian Araneta if the Gonzalez fight does not materialize.
On the other hand, Curiel is coming off a loss in a rematch against Nonthshinga and will be looking to redeem himself against Edwards. Despite being knocked out in their previous encounter, Curiel is determined to put on a better performance this time around.
With the possibility of a world title shot on the line for Edwards, as well as a potential domestic showdown with unbeaten Galal Yafai, the stakes are high for the upcoming fight on June 29th. Boxing fans can expect an exciting matchup between two skilled fighters as they battle it out in the ring for supremacy in the flyweight division.
