Frank Warren Demands “Very Strong” Officials for Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk Fight

Frank Warren, the co-promoter of Tyson Fury, is not taking any chances when it comes to the upcoming undisputed heavyweight championship fight against Oleksandr Usyk. With the fight scheduled for May 18 and set to be broadcast live on Sky Sports Box Office, Warren is adamant that the officials must be “very strong” to ensure a fair and controversy-free bout.

Warren’s concerns stem from Usyk’s last fight against Daniel Dubois, where the referee’s decision to allow Usyk ample time to recover from what was deemed a low blow raised eyebrows. Warren, who also represents Dubois, believes the call was unjust and does not want to see a repeat of such incidents in the upcoming fight with Fury.

“We want no controversy. We want somebody in there who everybody respects and will be very, very strong,” Warren emphasized in an interview with Sky Sports. He criticized the handling of Usyk’s last fight, calling it “completely ridiculous” and stressing the need for a competent and assertive referee for the Fury vs Usyk showdown.

Warren also expressed concerns about Usyk potentially targeting Fury’s previous injury, which led to the postponement of the fight in February. Despite the challenges, Warren remains confident in Fury’s ability to exploit any weaknesses in Usyk and secure a victory.

With both fighters gearing up for what promises to be an electrifying clash, Warren’s call for a strong referee underscores the high stakes and intense anticipation surrounding the undisputed heavyweight championship fight. Fans can catch all the action live on Sky Sports Box Office on May 18.
