Legendary Boxing Promoter Bob Arum Addresses Rumors of Six Judges for Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk Fight
Legendary boxing promoter Bob Arum has put an end to speculation surrounding the upcoming fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk, dismissing the idea of using six judges for the highly anticipated bout.
Fury and Usyk are set to face off on May 18 in what is being billed as the biggest heavyweight clash of the 21st century. The Gypsy King is looking to prove himself after a tough victory over Francis Ngannou in October, while Usyk boasts an undefeated record of 21 wins in his career.
Rumors had circulated that six judges would be present for the fight, a departure from the usual three ringside judges. However, Arum has now quashed those rumors, stating that such an experiment is unlikely for a fight of this magnitude.
“You don’t put in something like that for the first time dealing with a major fight from the standpoint of visibility and importance,” Arum told Boxing Scene. “Maybe six judges are better than three – I doubt that, but maybe. Nobody knows because it hasn’t been done.”
The decision to stick with the traditional three judges comes amidst concerns of bias, particularly given Fury’s close relationship with Saudi Arabian chief Turki Alalshikh. Usyk’s promoter, Alexander Krassyuk, has assured that steps have been taken to ensure fair judging by selecting officials on mutual approval.
As the fight draws near, all eyes will be on Fury and Usyk as they prepare to step into the ring in Saudi Arabia. The outcome of this epic battle is uncertain, but one thing is for sure – it’s a showdown that boxing fans won’t want to miss.
