Indian Squad Announced for Final Olympic Boxing Qualifiers in Bangkok
New Delhi: The Indian boxing squad for the final Olympic qualifiers in Bangkok has been announced with six changes, including the return of World Championships silver medallist Amit Panghal. The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) made the changes following a disappointing performance at the previous Olympic qualifying event.
Panghal, who had missed out on the Asian Games and the first World Olympic Qualifiers, has been included in the squad after impressing in the latest assessment. The seasoned Shiva Thapa and national champion Lakshya Chahar, however, have missed the cut.
In the women’s category, Ankushita Boro has shifted to the 60kg category, beating CWG bronze medallist Jaismine Lamboria. National champion Arundhati Choudhary emerged as the top performer in the 66kg weight class.
India has secured four Olympic quota places so far, with Nikhat Zareen, Preeti Pawar, Parveen Hooda, and Lovlina Borgohain clinching their entry to Paris at the Asian Games last year. The Indian squad for the final Olympic qualifiers includes Amit Panghal, Sachin Siwach Jr., Abhinash Jamwal, Nishant Dev, Abhimanyu Loura, Sanjeet, and Narender Berwal in the men’s category, and Ankushita Boro and Arundhati Choudhary in the women’s category.
With the Tokyo Olympics in sight, the Indian boxers will be looking to secure their spots in the upcoming qualifiers in Bangkok. Stay tuned for more updates on their journey to the Olympics.
