2024 Men’s Basketball Transfer Portal Tracker: JMU Dukes Making Moves

The JMU Men’s Basketball team has been making some big moves in the transfer portal this offseason, and fans are buzzing with excitement for the upcoming season. With several key departures and the departure of head coach Mark Byington, the Dukes knew they needed to hit the portal hard to fill the gaps.

One of the biggest returns for the Dukes is rising junior guard Xavier Brown. Brown was a key player for the team last season, scoring a season-high 21 points in the Sun Belt Championship game. His return is a huge boost for the team, as he has the potential to be a Player of the Year candidate in the Sun Belt conference.

In addition to Brown, the Dukes have added several talented players to their roster. Eddie Ricks III, a 6’7 forward from Morehead State, brings defensive prowess and offensive upside to the team. Justin Taylor, a 6’6 guard from Syracuse, adds depth to the backcourt with his defensive skills and offensive potential.

The Dukes have also added AJ Smith, Ebenezer Dowuona, Elijah Hutchins-Everett, Luke Anderson, and Mark Freeman to their roster, making them a formidable force in the Sun Belt conference. With a mix of size, scoring ability, and defensive skills, the Dukes are shaping up to be a team to watch this upcoming season.

However, the team has also seen some departures, including Terrence Edwards, Jaylen Carey, Raekwon Horton, Justin Amadi, Hollman Smith, Brycen Blaine, and Quincy Allen. While these departures are significant losses for the team, the additions they have made in the transfer portal should help fill the void left by these players.

Overall, the JMU Men’s Basketball team is gearing up for an exciting season with a mix of returning talent and new additions. Fans can’t wait to see how this revamped roster performs on the court this upcoming season.
