TCU Basketball Transfer Update: CJ Walker Reopens Recruitment and Essam Mostafa Enters Transfer Portal

TCU basketball’s offseason has taken an unexpected turn as Central Florida transfer CJ Walker announced on social media that he is re-opening his recruitment, just days after committing to the Horned Frogs. Walker’s decision came shortly after TCU reserve big man Essam Mostafa also entered the transfer portal.

In a statement on social media, Walker expressed his gratitude to TCU for recruiting him but ultimately decided to explore other options. The 6-foot-8 senior forward had a solid season with the Knights, averaging 7.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.

With Mostafa and Walker now looking elsewhere, TCU is left with just one transfer commitment in Arizona State guard Frankie Collins. The Horned Frogs will need to fill the void left by Mostafa in the frontcourt, as they currently have limited options in the post.

However, TCU is actively pursuing several transfer targets to bolster their roster. Green Bay transfer Noah Reynolds and Wyoming transfer Brendan Wenzel are among the players the Horned Frogs are targeting. Reynolds, who averaged 20 points and 4.5 assists last season, recently visited TCU, while Wenzel is set to visit this weekend.

In addition to Reynolds and Wenzel, TCU is also in contact with Northern Illinois transfer David Coit and UC-Santa Barbara transfer Yohan Traore. Coit, a dynamic guard, averaged over 20 points per game last season, while Traore, a former five-star prospect, put up impressive numbers at UCSB.

As TCU navigates the transfer market, they will be looking to add depth and talent to their roster to compete in the competitive Big 12 conference. The departures of Mostafa and Walker have created opportunities for new players to make an impact, and the Horned Frogs are actively working to address their needs before the start of the upcoming season.
