Grimsby couple celebrates success of resurrected basketball club
Grimsby Phoenix Basketball Club, under the leadership of Mark and Gemma Stinson, has achieved remarkable success in just three years. The couple took over a struggling community club and transformed it into a thriving organization that has now been named Community Club Of The Year in the Basketball England Awards for the Yorkshire region.
The club’s under 14s and under 16s squads have made their National League debut, marking the first time in 20 years that Grimsby has had National League standard basketball. The under 14s impressed by finishing sixth and even beating the Newcastle Eagles Academy side, while the under 16s went undefeated in their season.
Mark and Gemma have seen a significant increase in participation, with numbers growing from 10-15 children to 70-100 across their sessions. Their dedication to the community and commitment to providing a pathway for players of all abilities has not gone unnoticed, with the Humber Basketball Association praising their tireless work for children in the area.
Gemma Stinson was also recognized for her contributions to the club, winning Table Official Of The Year in the Basketball England Awards. Her professionalism and dedication to the game have not gone unnoticed, with the HBA commending her for her welcoming demeanor at National League games.
Grimsby Phoenix Basketball Club is a shining example of what can be achieved with passion, dedication, and a commitment to inclusivity. As they continue to grow and expand their offerings, they welcome more members to join them on their journey. For more information, visit the club’s website and social media pages.
