University of New Orleans Hires Stacy Hollowell as Basketball Coach
The University of New Orleans has made a significant coaching hire, bringing in Stacy Hollowell as the new head coach for the Privateers’ basketball team. Hollowell, who most recently served as an assistant at Texas Southern, is no stranger to success on the sidelines.
Just two years ago, Hollowell led Loyola-New Orleans to an NAIA championship, showcasing his coaching prowess and ability to lead a team to the ultimate prize. After his successful stint at Loyola, he joined the staff at Ole Miss under then-coach Kermit Davis. However, following Davis’ departure in 2023, Hollowell decided to seek new opportunities, ultimately landing the head coaching job at UNO.
Athletic director Tim Duncan expressed his excitement about Hollowell’s hiring, highlighting the coach’s impressive track record and basketball acumen. Duncan praised Hollowell as a strong recruiter and an innovative basketball mind, emphasizing the alignment of their basketball philosophies.
Hollowell, a Louisiana native with deep ties to the basketball community in the state, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the Privateers. He credited former NBA and college coach Tim Floyd as a mentor and friend who has guided him throughout his career.
With a successful coaching tenure at Loyola, where he amassed 166 victories and a national championship, Hollowell is well-prepared to take on the challenge at UNO. He is eager to follow in the footsteps of past UNO coaches and build on the program’s rich history of success.
Hollowell’s appointment comes after the departure of former coach Mark Slessinger, who left UNO for a coaching position at Indiana State. With a new leader at the helm, the Privateers are poised for a fresh start and a renewed focus on achieving greatness on the basketball court.
