Cal Basketball Lands Air Force Transfer Rytis Petraitis, Continues Strong Recruiting Weekend
Cal basketball fans have reason to celebrate as the team’s roster continues to get stronger with the addition of Air Force transfer Rytis Petraitis. The 6-foot-7 forward confirmed his commitment to the Bears after a standout sophomore season where he averaged 15.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.7 assists.
Joe Tipton of on3Sports broke the news on Sunday, with Petraitis choosing Cal over Texas. His impressive scoring numbers are even more noteworthy considering Air Force’s slow pace of play, finishing last in the Mountain West Conference in scoring this past season.
Petraitis, a native of Arlington, Texas, made a significant impact on the court despite missing the first seven games of the season due to a shoulder injury. He made a splash in his debut with 18 points in a close win against South Dakota and went on to have standout performances, including a career-high 27 points against Colorado State and a triple-double against UNLV.
The talented forward comes from a basketball family, with both of his parents having played at Oregon State. His father, Ramas Petraitis, had a solid college career with the Beavers, averaging 5.7 points and 3.4 rebounds in the late 90s.
With Petraitis and Stanford transfer Andrej Stojakovic joining the team, Coach Mark Madsen has assembled a formidable roster for the upcoming season. The Bears now have commitments from eight transfer players, a junior college player, and incoming freshman Jeremiah Wilkinson, along with returning players Devin Curtis and Vladimir Pavlovic.
Cal fans can look forward to an exciting season ahead with Petraitis and Stojakovic adding depth and talent to the team’s lineup.
