PVJSA Fourth Grade Boys Basketball Team Wins State Championship
The Penn Valley Junior Sports Association (PVJSA) boys basketball travel team has made headlines by clinching the 2024 State Championship Basketball Tournament title. The team, comprised of talented fourth graders from the Lower Merion School District, put on an impressive display at Penn State University, winning all five of their games to secure the coveted championship.
To earn a spot in the state championship tournament, teams had to first excel in an associated league or tournament championship. The PVJSA squad punched their ticket to the state tournament after emerging victorious at the Inter-County Basketball Association (ICBA) King of Court Tournament.
Guiding the team to glory was coach Christina Brown, a former standout player at Welsh Valley Middle School and Harriton High School. Brown, who graduated in 2019, is a member of the prestigious 1,000-Point Club and brought her wealth of basketball knowledge to the young athletes. Assisting her on the sidelines was her father, Kenny Brown.
The team roster boasted talented players such as Miles Richardson, Jack McGarry, Eli Greenstein, Reed Pockl, Jack Blenheim, Victor Zervanos, Nathan Petyk-Barnes, Zain Almefty, Sam Kivler, and Luke Allen. Their hard work and dedication paid off as they showcased their skills and teamwork on the court.
PVJSA has been a pillar in the community for over 40 years, offering basketball leagues, clinics, and camps to local youths from 2nd to 10th grade. In addition to recreational programs, PVJSA provides travel basketball opportunities for players seeking advanced training and a more competitive playing environment.
