Pat Kelsey Returns Home to Elder High School for 47th Annual Sports Stag
CINCINNATI — The Elder High School campus was buzzing with excitement on Friday night as former graduate and newly appointed University of Louisville men’s basketball coach, Pat Kelsey, returned to his alma mater to speak at the 47th annual Elder Sports Stag.
Kelsey, a point guard on the ’93 Division I state championship team, was greeted with open arms by family, friends, teammates, and classmates as he reminisced about his time at Elder and the special bond he shares with his ’93 teammates.
The packed Elder Memorial Fieldhouse drew a crowd of 1,010 eager listeners who hung on Kelsey’s every word as he shared stories from his time at Elder and his journey to becoming a successful NCAA Division I head coach.
Elder basketball coach Joe Schoenfeld praised Kelsey’s leadership skills and predicted his success as a coach even during their high school days. Schoenfeld described Kelsey as having the “it factor” and being capable of excelling in any field he chose.
Kelsey, known for his high-energy coaching style, has accumulated 261 career wins in his 12 seasons as a head coach and has quickly made an impact at Louisville with his recruiting efforts and roster management.
Despite his busy schedule, Kelsey took the time to reconnect with his Elder roots and express his gratitude for the impact the school had on his life. He spoke passionately about his experiences at Elder and the profound impact it had on his career.
