Maya Moore, Seimone Augustus headline Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame induction with Minnesota connection
The Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame induction ceremony had a strong Minnesota presence on Saturday night as Maya Moore and Seimone Augustus were enshrined, bringing their championship-winning chemistry to the forefront once again.
Moore and Augustus, who both played for the Minnesota Lynx and helped secure four WNBA titles for the team, were the stars of the evening. Moore reflected on their time together, praising their combination of talent, character, and on-court chemistry that made them a dominant force in the league.
Augustus, known for her humor, kept it simple by stating, “We like to win and win a lot,” highlighting their competitive spirit and drive for success.
In addition to Moore and Augustus, the Hall of Fame welcomed other deserving inductees, including Taj McWilliams-Franklin, Rita Gail Easterling, Violet Palmer, Sue Phillips, and Roonie Scovel. The ceremony also recognized Cheyney University as the “Trailblazer of the Game” for their historic NCAA Tournament run in 1982.
Former player Valerie Walker raised important questions about the recognition of women’s basketball history, emphasizing the need to acknowledge the pioneers and trailblazers who paved the way for future generations.
As Moore officially retired from basketball earlier this year, her legacy as a two-time AP Player of the Year and UConn standout was celebrated. Augustus, a former AP Player of the Year herself, was honored for her achievements at LSU and in the WNBA.
The 25th anniversary of the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame was a night to remember, filled with nostalgia, laughter, and a deep appreciation for the trailblazers and legends of the game.
