Kent Middle School Eighth-Grade Girls Basketball Team Dominates with Three Consecutive Undefeated Seasons
The Kent Middle School eighth-grade girls basketball team has become a force to be reckoned with, dominating the Marin County middle school league for three consecutive seasons. Coached by parent Sumant Sridharan and Kent athletic director Ryan Palmer, the team has achieved an impressive 25-0 record, claiming three consecutive championships.
The team’s success can be attributed to their strong bond and years of playing together on various teams, including Ross Recreation, CYO, and AAU. This camaraderie and chemistry have translated into success on the court, with the girls displaying exceptional skill and teamwork.
One of the team’s standout moments this season came during a nail-biting game against rival White Hill Middle School, where they found themselves trailing by a point with under 30 seconds to play. However, a clutch layup by Ava Babb secured a come-from-behind victory and kept Kent’s unbeaten streak alive.
The girls’ success extends beyond the middle school level, with many of them planning to continue playing basketball at Redwood High School. Their talent and dedication have not gone unnoticed, as they recently had the opportunity to showcase their skills during a halftime scrimmage at Haas Pavilion during a Cal-UCLA women’s basketball game.
Despite their impressive achievements on the court, what truly sets this team apart is their camaraderie and love for the game. As team member Anya Sridharan puts it, “Every single game everyone was smiling and laughing. We’ve always had a great time playing together.” With such a strong foundation of friendship and teamwork, the future looks bright for these talented young athletes as they transition to the high school level.
