The Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team has gained a new star player in Villanova guard Lucy Olsen. Despite facing a tornado warning during her visit to Iowa City, Olsen remained unfazed and signed with the Hawkeyes just two days later.

Olsen, the nation’s third-leading scorer last season, brings high expectations to Iowa City as she joins the team following the departure of superstar guard Caitlin Clark. The Pennsylvania native is no stranger to hard work and challenges, having honed her skills at Villanova and excelled on the court.

Throughout her career, Olsen has shown remarkable growth and determination, culminating in career-high statistics in points, rebounds, steals, field goal percentage, and free throw percentage during her final season with the Wildcats. Her decision to transfer to Iowa for her last year of eligibility reflects her desire to compete at a higher level and contribute to a rising program.

Head coach Lisa Bluder was quick to recognize Olsen’s talent and character, emphasizing the importance of building team culture and unity. Olsen’s visit to Iowa allowed her to connect with her future teammates and witness firsthand the supportive and confident atmosphere within the Hawkeyes’ program.

Drawing inspiration from NBA veteran Chris Paul, Olsen aims to be a versatile player on the court, balancing scoring with facilitating for her team. With the support of over 15,000 fans at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, Olsen is eager to showcase her skills and lead the Hawkeyes to success in the upcoming season.

As Olsen prepares to embark on this new chapter in her basketball career, she remains focused on her goals and determined to make a positive impact on the Hawkeyes’ program. With her talent, work ethic, and leadership qualities, Lucy Olsen is poised to be a valuable asset for Iowa as they strive for greatness in the competitive world of women’s college basketball.
