The Santa Ana Thunder: New Mexico’s Newest Professional Basketball Team Making Waves

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The state of New Mexico has seen its fair share of professional basketball teams come and go, but this year marks a special occasion with the inaugural season of the Santa Ana Thunder. Playing in The Basketball League (TBL) and calling Bernalillo High School its home, the Thunder is making a name for itself in the local basketball scene.

Coached by NBA champion Cliff Levingston, the Thunder is embracing the local talent in New Mexico and connecting with the community in a meaningful way. With players like Marcus Williams and Nathaniel Yazzie, who have roots in the state and are looking to showcase their skills on a professional level, the Thunder is paving the way for aspiring athletes in the area.

Led by the first female African-American majority owner in league history, Ingrid E. Hutt, and featuring the first player of Navajo heritage in league history, the Thunder is breaking barriers and making history in more ways than one. The team’s competitive nature and challenging gameplay have caught the attention of scouts, giving players the opportunity to showcase their talent and potentially move on to higher levels of basketball.

As the Thunder approaches the mid-way point of its first season, fans can catch the action at Bernalillo High School for the remaining home games. With a talented roster and a drive to succeed, the Thunder is proving that they are more than just a new team – they are a force to be reckoned with in the world of professional basketball.
