Kentucky Women’s Basketball Adds Josh Petersen to Coaching Staff
Kentucky women’s basketball head coach Kenny Brooks continues to make moves to strengthen his coaching staff, with the addition of Josh Petersen as the latest assistant coach. Petersen, who previously served as an assistant at Miami, brings a wealth of experience and success to the Wildcats program.
In a statement released by the university, Petersen expressed his excitement about joining the Kentucky coaching staff and working alongside Coach Brooks. He praised Brooks as one of the most admired and respected coaches in the game and expressed his eagerness to learn from him. Petersen also highlighted the top-notch team of coaches and support staff that Brooks is assembling, and he looks forward to the accomplishments they will achieve together.
During his time at Miami, Petersen played a key role in the Hurricanes’ success, helping guide the team to its first NCAA Tournament Elite Eight appearance in program history. His work with the post players contributed to Miami’s top-five rebounding rank within the ACC. Despite a 19-12 record during the 2023-24 season, the Hurricanes secured a significant victory against a top-five North Carolina State team.
Prior to his tenure at Miami, Petersen spent four seasons at Pittsburgh, where he oversaw several ACC All-Academic Team selections and helped develop standout players. His track record of success and player development make him a valuable addition to the Kentucky coaching staff.
As the Wildcats prepare for the upcoming season, Petersen’s expertise and coaching acumen will be instrumental in helping the team reach its full potential. With several key players transferring to other Power Five programs, including seniors Ajae Petty, Maddie Scherr, and Eniya Russell, Petersen’s coaching will be crucial in maximizing the talent on the roster. Fans can expect exciting times ahead for Kentucky women’s basketball under the guidance of Coach Brooks and his newly assembled coaching staff.
