Duke Basketball Loses Seven Players to Transfer Portal, Including Highly Touted Freshman Sean Stewart
In a shocking turn of events, Duke basketball has seen yet another player enter the transfer portal, bringing the total number of departures from last year’s team to seven. Sean Stewart, a highly touted freshman forward, announced his decision to leave the Blue Devils just a day after TJ Power made the same choice.
Stewart, a former five-star recruit who was ranked as the No. 17 prospect in the 2023 class, played sparingly in his freshman season, averaging 2.6 points and 3.2 rebounds per game in limited minutes. Despite his lack of playing time, Stewart showed flashes of his potential, particularly in a standout performance against La Salle where he recorded 16 points and 10 rebounds.
The news of Stewart’s departure comes as a surprise to Duke fans, who had high hopes for the rising sophomore. Stewart’s ties to Duke basketball run deep, as he grew up near Blue Devil legend Grant Hill and played alongside incoming freshman Cooper Flagg at Montverde Academy.
With Stewart’s decision, Duke now has five open scholarships to fill through the transfer portal. Head coach Jon Scheyer and his staff will be looking to add talent to a roster that will feature just two returning players next season.
Despite the recent exodus of players, Duke remains a top destination for recruits, with a strong incoming freshman class and the potential for impactful transfers to join the program. Stay tuned to Blue Devil Country for all the latest Duke basketball news as the offseason continues to unfold.
