Cornelius Jackson Takes Over as Marshall Men’s Basketball Coach
HUNTINGTON — The Cam Henderson Center was buzzing with excitement on Wednesday morning as Cornelius Jackson was officially introduced as the new head coach of the Marshall men’s basketball team. Jackson, a former player for the Thundering Herd from 1998-2001, fulfilled a lifelong dream as he stood on stage in front of a crowd of nearly 300 people.
In an emotional speech, Jackson expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the program he has always held close to his heart. With tears in his eyes, he thanked his friends, family, and mentors who have supported him throughout his journey from player to assistant coach and now head coach.
Jackson’s passion for family, faith, basketball, and Marshall University shone through as he spoke about his vision for the team. He credited his success to the giants who have guided him along the way, including former Marshall head coach Dan D’Antoni, whom he praised for his mentorship and leadership.
As a former team captain and standout player for Marshall, Jackson brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his new role. After coaching at various institutions, including West Virginia State, UT-Martin, and Cleveland State, Jackson returned to Marshall in 2017 and played a key role in the team’s historic Conference USA Championship and NCAA Tournament victory.
