Anthony Carlyle Named New Head Basketball Coach for Starkville Yellow Jackets
Starkville High School has made a major coaching change by bringing in Mississippi basketball legend Anthony Carlyle as their new head coach. Carlyle, who has an impressive track record of success, was officially announced as the Yellow Jackets’ new coach on Friday.
Carlyle, a highly respected coach in the state of Mississippi, comes to Starkville after a successful tenure at Yazoo City High School. During his time at Yazoo City, Carlyle led the team to a state championship in 2023 and has a total of six state titles to his name with three different schools.
The hiring of Carlyle comes after the dismissal of former head coach Woodie Howard, who was let go last month for failing to meet the standards of Starkville High School basketball. Despite a strong show of support from fans at a board meeting, the decision was made to part ways with Howard.
With Carlyle now at the helm, Starkville High School is looking to continue its tradition of success on the basketball court. Carlyle’s impressive coaching resume, which includes coaching multiple Division I standouts and winning over 300 games, makes him a valuable addition to the Yellow Jackets’ program.
“I’m excited to help build on the success that Starkville has had in basketball,” Carlyle said. “I look forward to working with the team and the community to continue the winning tradition that has been established here.”
With Carlyle’s proven track record of success and his commitment to player development, Starkville High School is poised to make a strong push for more championships in the coming seasons. Fans can expect an exciting new era of Yellow Jackets basketball under the leadership of Anthony Carlyle.
