BYU Basketball in Top Three for Texas Tech Transfer Pop Isaacs
BYU basketball is in the running for Texas Tech transfer Pop Isaacs, a four-star recruit with two years of eligibility left. Isaacs, who led the Red Raiders in scoring last season, is considering Creighton, St. John’s, and BYU as his final three choices, according to Jeff Goodman.
Isaacs’ scoring ability was on full display in games against BYU, where he put up impressive numbers. In a January matchup, he dropped 32 points in a comeback win over the Cougars, showcasing his scoring prowess. In the Big 12 tournament, Isaacs once again proved to be a handful for BYU, scoring 22 points and keeping his team ahead throughout the game.
While Isaacs’ scoring ability is undeniable, his efficiency has been a point of concern, shooting 35% from the floor and 29% from three-point range last season. However, playing alongside Dallin Hall at BYU could potentially help improve his offensive efficiency.
Isaacs has ties to BYU, having spent two years in Utah during high school at Wasatch Academy, where he played with current BYU players Richie Saunders and Fousseyni Traore. Despite his connections to the program, BYU will have to carefully consider Isaacs’ off-court behavior, as a recent civil lawsuit alleging sexual misconduct on a team trip could impact his recruitment.
With BYU’s roster taking shape, adding a player of Isaacs’ caliber could be a significant boost for the team. As the coaching staff evaluates their final roster spots, landing Isaacs would be a major win for the Cougars on the court, while also presenting challenges off the court that will need to be carefully navigated.
