WNBA Apologizes for Not Broadcasting Chicago Sky’s Preseason Game Featuring Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso

The WNBA faced backlash from fans and players alike after failing to broadcast the Chicago Sky’s preseason game against the Minnesota Lynx, where former NCAA rivals Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso were set to face off for the first time. The news broke just hours before the game, leaving many basketball enthusiasts disappointed and heartbroken.

One of the most vocal critics of the WNBA’s decision was Phoenix Mercury’s Brittney Griner, a 9-time WNBA All-Star and champion. Taking to Instagram, Griner expressed her frustration, stating, “It’s wild they didn’t have this game on League Pass! In no world does it make sense not to have these two young ladies’ game on the app!”

High Level Media Sports also chimed in, calling the WNBA’s decision “wild embarrassing” and emphasizing the importance of showcasing players like Angel Reese to continue growing the popularity of women’s basketball.

The WNBA later issued an apology for the oversight, attributing the lack of broadcast to an issue with the broadcaster, Bally Sports North, who opted to air a Major League Baseball game instead. While the decision disappointed many fans, the league clarified that not all preseason games would be televised.

Despite the disappointment surrounding the missed opportunity to watch Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso in action, fans can look forward to the regular season games being available on the WNBA app and TV. The incident serves as a reminder of the growing demand for women’s basketball and the importance of showcasing talented players like Reese to a wider audience.
