North Tama junior Ava Breakenridge has been making waves in the world of girls’ basketball, and her recent recognition as a second team selection on the 2023-24 Times-Republican All-Area Girls Basketball Teams is a testament to her talent and hard work.

Breakenridge, a junior guard, led her team to victory in the Class 1A Region 2 opener against Meskwaki, scoring 13 points, grabbing seven rebounds, and dishing out four assists. Her stellar performance on the court has not gone unnoticed, as she was the only player from North Tama to make the All-Area list this season.

Throughout the season, Breakenridge averaged 13.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, showcasing her versatility and skill on both ends of the court. She also led her team in assists, steals, and blocks, proving to be a valuable asset to the Redhawks.

Under the guidance of head coach Harold Youngblut, North Tama finished the season with a record of 10-11 (5-7) and placed fifth in the Iowa Star South division. Despite facing tough competition, Breakenridge’s leadership and performance on the court helped her team stay competitive throughout the season.

As Breakenridge continues to hone her skills and make a name for herself in the world of girls’ basketball, her recent recognition as a second team selection on the All-Area list is just the beginning of what promises to be a bright future in the sport. Fans and teammates alike can look forward to seeing her continue to shine on the court in the seasons to come.
