UVU Baseball Wins WAC Game Against UT Arlington, Softball Faces Tough Losses, and Track Sets Records at SUU Coliseum Championships
Utah Valley University baseball had a successful weekend series against UT Arlington, culminating in a 5-1 victory on Sunday at UCCU Ballpark in Orem. The Wolverines (20-21, 11-7) showcased strong pitching, holding the Mavericks (17-23, 12-9) to just two hits in the game.
The game started with UT Arlington taking a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning with a solo home run. However, UVU quickly responded in the bottom of the inning, tying the game with a home run of their own. The Wolverines then took the lead in the sixth inning and added insurance runs in the seventh to secure the win.
Pitchers Chase Hennessey, Robby Butenschoen, and Ethan Fowlks combined for a stellar performance, limiting the Mavericks’ offense and allowing only two hits throughout the game. Butenschoen, in particular, stood out with a strong outing on the mound.
The victory was significant for UVU as it marked their 80th home run of the season, setting a program record for the most home runs in a season. Head coach Eddie Smith praised the team’s effort, especially the pitching staff, for their outstanding performance.
With the win, Utah Valley looks to carry the momentum into their upcoming series against California Baptist. The Wolverines will face off against the first-place team in the WAC next weekend in Riverside.
In other UVU sports news, the softball team faced tough losses in pitcher’s duels over the weekend, while the track and field team had a successful outing at the SUU Coliseum Championships, with Olivia Pixton setting a school record in the triple jump.
