West Allegheny Baseball: Coach Bryan Cornell Leading the Charge in Pursuit of Another Title

West Allegheny’s baseball team may not have the star power of past championship teams, but they are proving that they have what it takes to compete at a high level once again. Led by longtime coach Bryan Cornell, the Indians are making a strong push for another title in 2024.

Despite not having any blue-chip recruits on the roster, West Allegheny has found success with a group of hard-working players who are stepping up in big moments. Junior center fielder Brock Cornell, better known for his football skills, has emerged as a key player for the team this season, providing speed and energy at the top of the lineup.

Senior second baseman Brady Miller and senior catcher Wil Gubba have been consistent contributors at the plate, while senior first baseman Ben Kern and cleanup hitter Derek Curry are also making their presence felt. Although the team has yet to hit a home run this season, they have found ways to manufacture runs and win games.

On the pitching side, junior Mason Gass and freshman Brandon Boyce have been solid starters for the Indians, shutting down opponents and giving the team a chance to win every time they take the mound.

As the regular season winds down and the playoffs approach, Coach Cornell believes that his team is ready for the challenge. With a mix of experienced seniors and young talent, the Indians are poised to make a deep run in the postseason and compete for another WPIAL title.

In a season full of surprises and upsets, West Allegheny is proving that they have what it takes to be a contender in Class 5A. With a never-say-die attitude and a roster full of players willing to step up when it matters most, the Indians are a team to watch as they make their playoff push.
