High School Baseball Game Recaps – May 3, 2019
In a thrilling Park Region Conference matchup, the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines secured a 5-0 victory over the Pillager Huskies on Friday, May 3. Peyton Church was the star of the game, pitching a complete-game shutout while also contributing offensively with a 2-for-3 performance, including three RBIs and a run scored.
Church’s dominant performance on the mound included allowing just five hits, striking out four, and walking two in seven innings. His stellar outing was complemented by Connor Dutke, who reached base four times with three hits and a walk for the Wolverines.
On the other side, Derek Hoglin of Pillager put up a strong effort, going 2-for-2 with a double in the losing effort.
With this win, Wadena-Deer Creek improved to 4-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play, while Pillager fell to 5-4 overall and 4-3 in conference matchups.
Looking ahead, Wadena-Deer Creek is set to host New York Mills on Tuesday, May 7, at 4:30 p.m., while Pillager will face off against Ottertail Central on the same day at 4:30 p.m.
In other baseball action, Reese Young led the Pierz Pioneers to a 4-1 victory over the Albany Huskies, and the Pine River-Backus Tigers secured a 4-2 win over the Hill City/Northland Storm. Additionally, the Staples-Motley Cardinals edged out the Osakis Silverstreaks 3-2, and the Parkers Prairie Panthers dominated the Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Raiders 11-0.
