Amateur Baseball Returns to St. James: The A’s Make a Comeback
After a six-year hiatus, amateur baseball is making a comeback in St. James, and the community couldn’t be more excited. Doug Jones, the manager of the team known as the A’s, has been instrumental in bringing back the sport to the town.
With a roster of 27 players, including a mix of younger players who aged out of the American Legion program and older players in their 20s and 30s, the team is ready to hit the field and represent St. James once again. Jones, along with Jared Schwanz, has worked tirelessly to make this revival possible, and the support from the community has been overwhelming.
The team has already hosted successful fundraisers, including a Bean Bag Fundraiser, to support youth baseball in the area. The community has shown great enthusiasm for the return of amateur baseball, and the team is eager to see the stands filled with supporters at their first home game on Sunday, May 12 against Lamberton.
For Jones, seeing the players take the field in their hometown is a proud moment. “It will be nice to see them playing amateur baseball where they grew up. They are excited to be back at home,” he said.
With the facilities and finances in place to support the team, St. James is ready to embrace amateur baseball once again. The A’s are gearing up for an exciting season ahead, and the entire community is looking forward to cheering them on.
