The Mroueh Brothers: From Dubai to Griffith, Pursuing Baseball Dreams
The Mroueh brothers, originally from Dubai, are making a splash in the world of high school baseball in Griffith. Despite the wintry mix outside, the brothers are focused on their first season playing baseball in the U.S.
All three brothers, Mazen, Mahdi, and Milad, are vying for the same position as catcher, following in the footsteps of their father who played the same position at Butler in the 1990s. Despite the competition, Griffith’s coach, Amir Wright, notes that there is no conflict among the brothers as they all strive to improve and support each other.
While Mazen and Mahdi have more experience as catchers, Milad decided to give the position a shot with the help and guidance of his brothers. The brothers have been involved in various sports since arriving in Griffith last summer, with baseball being the common thread that brings them together.
Their father, who introduced them to the sport, remains a key influence in their baseball journey. The brothers recall their experiences playing baseball in Dubai, where the sport is not as popular as soccer and cricket but still has a presence thanks to the American and Canadian expatriates.
Despite the differences in sports culture between Dubai and the U.S., the Mroueh brothers are adapting well and are determined to secure a spot on the Griffith baseball team. With their shared love for the game and their father’s guidance, the brothers are looking to make their mark in high school baseball and continue their athletic journey in their new home.
