The Fresno Grizzlies, a minor league affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, are facing a discrimination lawsuit over a controversial “Ladies Night” promotion from last season. The lawsuit, filed against the team last week, revolves around a promotion on May 25, 2023, where female fans were granted free entry into Chukchansi Park while men and “nonbinary persons” had to pay for admission.
Harry Crouch, a male plaintiff in the case, expressed his frustration at having to pay $18 for entry while his female counterpart, Christine Johnson, was able to attend the game for free. The plaintiffs’ attorney, Alfred Rava, criticized the Grizzlies for allegedly sexualizing female fans and perpetuating gender discrimination through the promotion.
Kevin Little, an attorney in Fresno, warned that events like “Ladies Night” could potentially violate the Unruh Act, a California law that prohibits discrimination based on various factors including gender.
Despite the controversy, the Grizzlies have not yet responded to requests for comment on the matter. Fans in Fresno recently witnessed a victory for the team as they defeated the Stockton Ports 10-2.
Looking ahead, “Ladies Night” is not scheduled to return for the 2024 season. For more updates on this story and other sports news, follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.
