High School Baseball Season Openers Recap: Murray County Central and Adrian/Ellsworth Secure Wins
The baseball season kicked off with a bang as teams across the region battled it out on the diamond. In a thrilling matchup, the Murray County Central Rebels secured a comeback victory over Yellow Medicine East with a final score of 5-4.
Trailing 2-1 entering the sixth inning, the Rebels rallied with a four-run burst to take the lead and ultimately secure the win. Krew Schneider led the charge on the mound, pitching five solid innings and also contributing with two hits, including a home run. Owen Gillette came in to close out the game and clinch the victory for the Rebels.
Five Rebel players collected hits in the game, with Schneider and Dylan Kluis each driving in two runs. Dugan Kluis and Cayden Veldhuisen also made key contributions at the plate.
The Adrian/Ellsworth Dragons also started their season on a high note with a walkoff win over MACCRAY. After a back-and-forth battle, the Dragons emerged victorious with a final score of 6-5. Jayden Russell played the hero with a game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Keagan Polzine put on a stellar performance on the mound for the Dragons, collecting nine strikeouts over five innings of work. The Dragons will look to carry this momentum into their upcoming game against Tracy-Milroy-Balaton.
In other baseball action, the Jackson County Central Huskies fell short in their season opener against Fairmont, while the Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda Coyotes suffered a 9-3 loss to Dawson-Boyd. On the softball front, the Jackson County Central Huskies dominated Fairmont with a 13-0 victory, led by pitcher Hadley Wachal’s impressive performance on the mound.
