Duluth Marshall Secures Split with Late Rally; Superior Wins Opener in Triangular
Duluth Marshall staged an epic comeback in the top of the ninth inning to split a thrilling doubleheader against Bemidji in prep baseball action on Saturday. After dropping the first game 8-6, Marshall bounced back in game two with a 13-8 victory.
The game-winning moment came when Max Berrisford crushed a three-run homer to break an 8-8 tie, punishing the Lumberjacks for intentionally walking the batters ahead of him. Juri Lubovich then added a two-run single to extend the lead. This rally all happened with two outs, showcasing Marshall’s resilience and determination.
The game was a rollercoaster of momentum swings, with Marshall trailing 5-0 and 7-3 before eventually taking the lead. Bemidji fought back to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh, only to be overtaken by Marshall’s explosive ninth-inning rally.
In the first game, Marshall took an early 5-0 lead but ultimately fell short after surrendering seven runs in the third inning. Despite the loss, standout performances from players like Carter Boos, Owen Marsolek, and Tanner Carlson kept the Hilltoppers in the game.
Elsewhere in the prep baseball scene, Finn Furcht led Esko to victory with a dominant pitching performance, striking out 13 batters, including nine in a row. The Mariners of Silver Bay also secured a win, with Brooke Velcheff and Maddy Ollman leading the charge with three hits each.
