High School Baseball and Softball Results from Friday’s Games
Garrison Garton’s no-hitter led Layton High baseball to a 5-0 victory over Herriman in an exciting matchup on Friday. Garton’s dominant performance on the mound included five strikeouts and only three walks, shutting down the Herriman offense completely.
Emilio Cedeno stood out at the plate for Layton, going 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Fish Manning contributed with an RBI double, while Tanner Neil scored two runs to help secure the win for Layton, who improved to 7-1 on the season.
In other baseball action, Fremont blanked Bingham 8-0 behind a strong offensive showing. Brigg Grange led the way with a 3 for 4 performance, including a double and two RBIs. Kobe Nance pitched a gem, striking out 10 batters and allowing only three hits in 6 1/3 innings.
Bear River split a doubleheader with Mountain Crest, dropping the first game 2-1 in a heartbreaking walk-off loss but bouncing back to win the second game 5-3 in extra innings. Gehrig Marble and Easton Goodliffe were key contributors for Bear River in the nightcap.
In softball action, Bear River rallied for a 4-3 win over Mountain Crest, scoring three runs in the sixth inning to secure the victory. Clearfield also notched a win, defeating Ogden 11-2 on the road.
On the soccer field, Fremont edged out Layton 2-1, while Syracuse and Farmington both picked up wins in region play. Layton Christian secured a 2-1 victory over Maple Mountain in a thrilling matchup.
In boys volleyball, Roy swept Ben Lomond in straight sets, with standout performances from Dahlen Pontius and Kael Miller leading the way for the Royals.
Overall, it was a day filled with exciting matchups and standout performances across various sports in the local high school scene.
