Aiea and Kailua to Clash in OIA Baseball Championship
HONOLULU — Aiea and Kailua will face off in the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I baseball championship after both teams secured victories in the semifinals at Les Murakami Stadium on Thursday.
Aiea’s first baseman Shayden Muraoka’s impressive triple in the first inning set the tone for Na Alii’s 3-1 win over Roosevelt. Muraoka’s hit, combined with Aidan Yoshida’s solid pitching performance, propelled Aiea to the final.
On the other side, Kailua defeated Moanalua 3-1 to advance to the championship game. The Surfriders showcased strong pitching from Zayne Hookala and Kaimana Burgo, along with timely hitting to secure the win.
Both Aiea and Kailua have a rich history in OIA baseball, with multiple titles to their names. Aiea last won an OIA title in 2015 at the Division II level, while Kailua’s most recent championship was in 2017.
For Aiea, this championship opportunity is a long time coming, and first-year coach Brennan Alejo is proud of his team’s journey to the final. The players have shown trust in each other and the coaching staff, leading to their success on the field.
