Kansas State Baseball Shut Out by Nebraska in No-Hitter Performance
Kansas State baseball suffered a tough loss on Wednesday as they were no-hit by Nebraska’s Jackson Brockett in an 8-0 defeat. Brockett, a sophomore left-hander, was dominant on the mound, striking out 12 batters and allowing just three base runners in the historic performance.
Head coach Pete Hughes praised Brockett’s outing, calling it “unreal” and highlighting the impressive feat of throwing a no-hitter on just 107 pitches. On the other side, K-State struggled to get anything going offensively, using seven different pitchers throughout the game.
The Wildcats had experienced the thrill of a no-hitter earlier in the season when Jacob Frost and Jackson Wentworth combined for one against Cincinnati in March. However, this time they found themselves on the wrong end of history, being no-hit for the first time since 2021.
Looking ahead, K-State will need to quickly shift their focus as they prepare for the Sunflower Showdown against in-form Kansas this weekend. The Jayhawks are riding a seven-game winning streak and will pose a tough challenge for the Wildcats.
Despite the disappointing result, Hughes remains optimistic about his team’s chances moving forward, emphasizing the need to put the no-hitter behind them and focus on the task at hand. The rivalry series is set to kick off on Friday at Tointon Family Stadium, where K-State will look to bounce back and make a statement against their rivals.
