Hawaii Baseball Team Gets Huge Win Over Cal State Northridge
The Hawaii baseball team pulled off a stunning upset on Friday night, as they defeated Cal State Northridge 3-2 in a thrilling series opener at Les Murakami Stadium. The win marked the Rainbow Warriors’ sixth straight victory, propelling them back above .500 in Big West Conference play.
The standout performance of the night came from pitcher Alex Giroux, who delivered five flawless innings of relief, striking out a remarkable six batters in a row at one point. Giroux’s dominant display on the mound left the CSUN batters reeling and earned high praise from his teammates and coach.
Jordan Donahue also played a crucial role in the victory, driving in all three UH runs with two hits in key situations. Donahue’s clutch hitting combined with Giroux’s lights-out pitching proved to be the winning formula for the Rainbow Warriors.
Head coach Rich Hill was effusive in his praise for Giroux’s performance, calling it “stunning” and one of the best he’s ever seen. Giroux himself credited his success to the confidence he had in all his pitches, particularly his cutter, which was working exceptionally well on the night.
With the win, Hawaii dealt a blow to CSUN’s nine-game winning streak and knocked them out of a first-place tie in the conference. The Rainbow Warriors still have work to do to catch up to the leaders in the Big West, but performances like Giroux’s on Friday night give them hope for a strong finish to the season.
The series continues with Game 2 at Les Murakami Stadium, where UH will look to build on their momentum and continue their push towards the top of the conference standings. Fans can expect another exciting matchup as the Rainbow Warriors aim to keep their winning streak alive.
